I learned a lot this week about the Japanese system of dealing with foreign talent - let’s wait until he comes to the audition to ask him if he’ll shave his head for the role in my commercial. They obviously liked the fact that I’m an athlete but didn’t think it would be much of a deal to cut the hair that took several years to grow! So from today, I’ve vowed to be certain with anyone before even going to an audition of the details required for the shoot. What’s the point of wasting peoples’ time, right? Some of these companies obviously just don’t get it - that’s supposedly why there’s a picture selection before the castings. Ah well..
Another two episodes of NHK’s Kyo Kara Eikaiwa were shot this week so have a look in episodes 18 and 21 for my new hairstyle - straight hair! I’d felt that I needed a change for a while now and will likely change it again sometime this summer. A bit of a preview of the episodes - does anyone think George can convince Akane to go on a date with him? Check out number 21 to find out!
In other news, the JMEC competition is almost over. The written part of the competition is complete and now we’ve just got the presentation left. I’m responsible for presenting most of the plan for my team so wish me luck. I was thinking of using a keynote speech style for it. If anyone would like to give me any presenting advice, tips & tricks, feel free to send them my way!
One last thing to note, this weekend had a Thai festival in the Yoyogi Kouen area. What a beautiful weekend to have it! Wonderful food (gapao, pad thai, curries, fried bananas, mangoes, etc), music and such a diverse crowd. Love those kinds of experiences. If you’d like to share your favourite Thai restaurant in Tokyo, please leave a comment. I’m always looking for new places to eat at!
I also wonder if there is somewhere I can go to see what other festivals are coming up in that same area this summer.. Does anyone know? Would love to hear where!
Have a nice week and speak to you all soon,
Jeffrey / ジェフリー

Welcome to the club. After an intense weekend of final preparations for the JMEC business plan, my team was able to get it into the hands of the competition organizers 5 minutes before the deadline. Everything seemed to go smoothly towards the end though so we weren’t too worried. I will now officially endorse FedEx Kinko’s anytime they want to use my image!! They printed the thing and binded it in a matter of minutes to save my team’s collective butt. I really do believe we’ll have a chance to take home a prize in this competition because the next part of the competition is my specialty - presenting to an audience! Wish us luck..
Who out there loves to cook? This week I’m quite excited as I will be appearing this Friday on Kurihara Harumi’s new cooking show on NHK as a guest. I heard that she is like the Martha Stewart of Japan so it’ll be an honour to be able to cook with her and try some of her food. I love cooking so I know she’ll be able to teach me more than just a few things. This week I’ve actually started to look into eating more organic vegetables (yuuki yasai in japanese) and healthy food like the acai berry and other fruits. Natural Lawson & AM/PM both carry Fruta Fruta acai berry juice now in few tasty mixed flavours (strawberry, banana & mango mixes) and you can also drink it in a big mixed bottle from Monavie (over 10 different healthy fruits together - you have to become a member to order it through them though). Does anyone know if there are other types of acai products in Japan these days? Anyway, Yoghurt is my favourite thing by far to eat now though - LG 21 & some other Meiji ones are the best! If anyone has any suggestions as to where I can go to eat healthily in any of the central wards of Tokyo, please let me know!
An acting update: this weekend, I’ll be acting in a short film directed by Hernan Jourdan, a young Argentinian director studying film at one of Tokyo’s film schools. I’m sure it’ll be another fun experience being in front of the camera. My new NHK show “kyo kara eikawa” aired last week but I didn’t even know what time. If anyone can let me know when the program usually airs, leave a comment.
Regarding the 48 hour film project: if anyone knows of any writers, producers, directors, actors, musicians, makeup & hair artists or clothing stylists that might be interested in participating in the festival this coming August, do not hesitate to get them in touch with me by leaving a comment with their contact details.
Two Canadian teams through to the 2nd round of the NHL playoffs - Ottawa and Vancouver! I’m gonna be cheering for Vancouver this time around - Go Canucks..
Thanks & have a great week everyone!
